For the past four years, Cal Poly Pomona has been one of the first and few schools in the United States to use the dual mold injection placement method.
Construction of the molds usually takes place during the Fall Quarter after we receive the CNC'd foam forms of our hull design.
We have been able to complete this process within a record of two weeks!
Mold Construction
Display & Stand
Place Day!
The construction of the display and stand happens as soon as the theme is finalized.
This part of the project is where most of our artistic creativity is exposed!
This may be the least technical portion of the project, yet is still crucial to the team's success.
Last years theme involved a 50's/60's beach theme.
This is the big day.
Once the mold's are ready, we align the reinforcement inside and prepare the molds for the pumping process.
We have been able to place our entire, 20-foot long Concrete Canoe in under 30 minutes.
After this day, the last steps are to cure the concrete, sand the canoe, paint it, and add finishing touches!
